It’s over before it begins

Much to the chagrin of the design community at large, the International Olympic Committee has quashed the use of VSA Partners' beautiful Chicago 2016 Olymic bid logo. Apparently the use of any Olympic-related imagery in a city's Olympic logo is not allowed. This means that the use of the logo must stop immediately and all other collateral bearing the logo must also be removed or taken out of use. While everyone involved seems to be taking this in stride I'm willing to bet that there are a few broken hearts and/or tempers flaring at VSA.
This is not the first time the Olympic Committee has struck down the use of Olympic imagery or names. In a more local example they required Minneapolis-based rock band The Olympic Hopefuls to change their name since the word "Olympic" is trademarked. They are now know as The Hopefuls.
